On Monday (April 19) evening around around 6:30 pm, a 10-year-old boy who lives in the neighborhood was assaulted on the Johnson Road trail while he was riding his bike. The juvenile suspect approached the child, asking him for directions; he then punched the child and stole his bicycle. Police responded and were in the neighborhood within a few minutes.
An update from from IMPD Officer Robyn Frazier this morning is shown below. If you are out in the neighborhood and see something that doesn't look right, especially when it involves a child, please say something and contact IMPD as needed.
"After speaking with Officer Jones this sounds like an isolated incident. We will add extra patrols to your area. There is no suspect information as we did not locate the subject. Per the report the victim’s father stated that subject was 16 years old. The report doesn’t suggest anything about him living off of 56th street, and at this point seems like an assumption. The suspect is described as being a black male wearing jeans, with a red sweatshirt and had long dreads."
